NEED TO GET RECERTIFIED?

Recertify as a USSF Referee:

USSF Referees who were licensed before July 1, 2011 must recertify for 2012 before they can officiate matches in 2012. Referees who took the Entry Level Course in the Summer/Fall of 2011 received their 2012 Badge at that time, and will not need to recertify at this time. Referees can attend any of the In-Service Clinics to get your required five (5) hours of training and take the exam to register for 2012. Those who were certified for 2010 need to contact one of the Area Instructional Coordinators or Terry Miller, State Director of Instruction, to make arrangements, with explanation to recertify. Those who were certified last in 2009 or before will need to take the Entry Level Course again to get certified. Referees can NO LONGER sit in an Entry Level Course for a class or two in an attempt to get their required five hours. Those who haven't recertified in several years MUST take the entire course after properly registering and paying the course fee.

2012 Recertification Procedures

Here is a quick reminder of how the Recert administration will go this year:
1.) Referees should register for the respective In-Service Clinic (Online on the MRS Web Site) and pass exam online before completing the required five (5) hours of In-Service Training.
2.) If the referee does not pass, they have the option to immediately retake the exam online and can do this as many times as is necessary.
3.) Passing score is 75% (no “wiggle room”).
4.) Referees should register online. Although this is not required, it is strongly recommended.
5.) They will bring a copy of their Certificate of Completion (exam) to the clinic along with their online registration receipt.
(Option 2 is that they will bring their Certificate of Completion to the clinic and register with you at the clinic.)

A couple important notes:
1.) EVERYONE must fill out a registration form and bring it to the clinic, even if they registered online. Greg Watson, Maryland's State Referee Administrator, needs a signed, paper copy of the form for his records.
2.) If the Instructor cannot confirm BOTH your exam score (either by their Certificate of Completion or the spreadsheet) as well as your registration (online or manual), YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A 2012 BADGE.
3.) Referees who have not taken the exam or if they did not register online before attending, will be advised to do so ASAP. The registration links to the respective Recert clinic will remain on the MSR web site for about 15 days after the date of the actual clinic. Referees should “register” for the clinic even though it has passed. That way, we can keep registration forms together with test scores.
4.) Thank you in advance for your cooperation.we expect a few “glitches”. So far, they have been very minor.
What Does A Referee Need To Do Annually To Recertify ?
  • Attend an In-Service Clinic(s) to Earn Five (5) Hours or More of Training.
  • Take & Pass the Recert Exam with a Grade of 75% or Greater - Including Accurately Listing Law 12 Fouls & Misconducts _ The Recert Exam in now 100 questions (true/false & multiple choice) and writing out Law 12.
  • Pay the Annual Renewal Fee of $40 for Grades 7 & 8, $75 for Grades 5 & 6. (Online at: www.ussoccer.info)
  • Bring a copy of the Online Renewal Payment or a check payable to MSR.
  • Bring a completed 2012 USSF Referee Registration Form (Found here on this web site) filled in online before printing. (Note: You will NOT be able to fill in your USSF # or game counts before printing the form. You will need to fill that in by hand after printing the completed form).

IN-SERVICE TRAINING SESSIONS

There will be over a dozen opportunities to attend and recertify for 2012. Should you need to recertify, referees can attend any of the monthly sessions held in Columbia/Howard County, Westminster or Frederick. Referees who were certified for 2011 need to attend any three (3) of these monthly sessions and take the recert exam. The exam is available to those who have attended at least three sessions and earned no less than five required hours of training. The recertification exam is now given online. Referees who want to take the exam MUST register for the respective clinic online at the State Web Site or clicking Here to register for the Columbia/Howard County Clinic.
